William L. “Bill” Boxell, 88, of Warren, Indiana, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion to family, dedication to his work, and a lifelong love of sports. His death on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, has brought sadness to family members, friends, and others who knew him throughout his many years in the Warren community.
Bill was born on January 17, 1938, in Warren, Indiana, to the late Johnathan “Earl” and Johnina (Long) Boxell. He grew up in the community and graduated from Warren High School, establishing the local roots that remained an important part of his life.
Following high school, Bill began what became a remarkable 48-year career with Anaconda Wire and Cable in Marion, Indiana. His long commitment to his work reflected the same consistency and dedication that characterized many other parts of his life.
Family was at the center of Bill’s life. He married Bonnie (Buckland) Boxell on April 28, 1956, and together they built a family and shared decades of life. Bonnie preceded him in death, and Bill also experienced the heartbreaking loss of his son, Jeffery A. Boxell, as well as his sister, Mona Wilson.
Despite those losses, Bill’s family remained an important part of his legacy. He is survived by his son, Robert Boxell and his wife, Sherri, of Indianapolis; his daughter, Cynthia Samples of Centerville; and his sister, Deanna Johnston of Fort Wayne. His family also includes four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, extending his legacy across multiple generations.
Sports were another major source of enjoyment throughout Bill’s life. He was a devoted supporter of Indiana University athletics, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Indiana Pacers. He also followed high school basketball closely, maintaining an enduring interest in the sport and the athletes who competed in it.
Bill’s passing at Parkview Huntington Hospital came after nearly nine decades of life connected to the Warren area. For those who knew him, his story was not simply defined by his employment or his interests, but by the relationships he built and the consistency with which he remained connected to his family and community.

A graveside service for Bill is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 11 a.m. to noon at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in rural Marion. Chaplain Gerald Moreland is scheduled to officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Glancy H. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Warren.
The family has indicated that preferred memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. As loved ones gather to remember Bill, they will reflect on a life that included decades of family memories, a distinguished working career, and an enduring passion for sports.
